I've always loved horses, ever since I was old enough to know what they were, but I didn't start riding until I was ten years old. I used to be a highly competitive figure skater, so that accounts to my late start in riding.

I learned to ride in a very small barn from a wonderful instructor. She taught me a very practical way of equitation, nothing flashy or fancy, and also instructed me in the ways of horsemanship. Four years later I got my first horse, a Thoroughbred mare named Lydia. She was a beautiful animal and a fantastic jumper, but we just didn't click. At the time I was most interested in fox hunting and showing, and she was a high strung animal in both situations. After two years I sold her, and got my horse now, Elvis.

Elvis is everything I needed in a horse. He's honest and safe, and gave me confidence. He's also green enough that I've had to really work with him, and learn how to deal with different issues in horses.

After I got Elvis, I started fox hunting reguarly. We hunted for two seasons, and won Junior member of the year in 2002. When the hunt club split into two different sects, I started concentrating more on showing. We worked with jumping, and went to lots of different schooling shows competing in hunters and equitation. For fun, I started riding western because when I bought Elvis, he was predominately a western horse.

Now I ride on the NCSU Huntseat Team at my college. I moved Elvis to the barn that the team trains at, and since then he's been doing fabulous. Our jumping is getting better and better, and we have been point chasing with the Johnston County Horse Show Seris for the 2005 show season.
